Course registration closes four (4) weeks before the start of each course. A booking fee is payable upon registration, which is only refundable if the course is cancelled.
The language of instruction and learning materials for the course are in English.
Course Format
The Hybrid course includes a required e-learning section with 30+ hours of interactive online learning followed by 45+ hours of in-person learning over the course of five days. The e-learning section includes interactive learning modules with videos, readings, self-practice assignments, quizzes, and case studies. Students must register four to six weeks prior to the course to ensure adequate time to complete the e-learning section. Review the minimum technology requirements below.
The Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course is for outdoor educators, wilderness guides, members of the military, professional search and rescue teams, wildland firefighters, researchers, those involved in disaster relief, or the average outdoor enthusiast looking for a high level of confidence when things go wrong. The course provides essential training in wilderness medicine, leadership, and critical thinking for professionals and leaders working and traveling in outdoor, low-resource, and remote environments. During the course, students learn the essential principles and skills required to assess and manage medical problems in isolated and extreme environments for days and weeks if necessary. This Hybrid course option included a required e-learning section with 30+ hours of interactive online learning followed by 5 days (45 hours) of in-person training.
Instructer
Erik Forsythe, Flight Paramedic. Erik works as a Flight Paramedic in western Colorado and lives in the small but mighty ski town of Crested Butte. He has been working EMS since 1992 with experience in Mountain Rescue, Ski Patrol, Ambulance, Fire, and Flight services and has held the positions of Ski Patrol Director and EMS Chief. Erik has been teaching wilderness medicine programs since 1994 and joined the staff of Wilderness Medical Associates® in 2000.

Curriculum
During the course, students learn the essential principles and skills required to assess and manage medical problems in isolated and extreme environments for days and weeks if necessary.
Evaluation
This course is pass/fail. 100% attendance is mandatory. Evaluation is based on practical patient simulations, hands-on activities, and a written test. WMA International is committed to making reasonable accommodation for any student with special needs.
Recertification
Certifications are valid for three years. Graduates of this course may recertify by taking a Wilderness First Responder Recertification course or a Bridge (WAFA to WFR) course.
